Georgia football is back atop the Southeastern Conference and is one of four teams with a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs defeated Texas in overtime in the SEC championship game on December 7 to win the conference title, their second in three years. However, Kirby Smart and his team have higher ambitions: the third national championship in four years is their primary goal.

As a result of winning the conference championship, the Bulldogs went 11-2 and secured second place in the College Football Playoff standings and a first-round bye. Georgia will face the winner of Notre Dame and Indiana, the Nos. 7 and 10 seeds, respectively, of the 12 teams, in the CFP quarterfinals on New Year’s Day.

Georgia will once again face the winner of the Hoosiers and Fighting Irish in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. Here’s what you need to know:

Is Georgia playing football today?

No, the Georgia Bulldogs are not playing this week. The Bulldogs received a first-round bye in the CFP after winning the SEC and earning a No. 2 overall seed. This gives Georgia almost a month between games to regroup. The Bulldogs’ final bye week was the week of October 26, before their rivalry game with Florida.

Georgia returns to the quarterfinal game on January 1, 2025 against the winner of No. 10 Indiana and No. 7 Notre Dame.
