The city is accumulating snow for the first time of the season – NBC New York

The first day of winter brought New York City’s first increased snowfall of the season.

Residents woke up to measurable snow on the ground across the Tri-State on Saturday.

This morning the snow will taper off and begin moving out of the area around 7 a.m. in New Jersey. In areas further east in Connecticut and Long Island, it will end around 9 or 10 a.m. It will leave cold temperatures throughout the weekend.

New York City is warning drivers on Saturday to be careful on the roads and to slow down while behind the wheel due to the possibility of slippery roads.

Here’s a look at some preliminary snow totals from this morning:

  • Essex Falls, NJ: 4.5″
  • Unionville, NY: 4.2″
  • Sparta, NJ: 2.8″
  • Glen Cove, NY: 2.2″
  • Newark Airport: 2.2″
  • LaGuardia Airport: 2.0″
  • Mott Haven, NY: 2.0″
  • Elmhurst: 2.0″
