“Then I realized that wasn’t actually her bag of rocks. They are already very connected to gratitude and understanding of the world, so they develop a strong sense of empathy,” he added.

While Ryan’s parents worked as retail salespeople and police officers, his claim that both he and Blake “grew up working class” has since caused a stir online, with several angry netizens pointing out that Blake had an objectively privileged upbringing.

In case you didn’t know, Blake grew up in the Los Angeles suburb of Tarzana and attended the highly regarded school Burbank High, which was attended by several other notable celebrities.

Her late father, Ernie Lively, was an actor and director, while her mother, Elaine Lively, was a talent manager. All four of her siblings pursued careers in the acting industry, and Blake was just 17 when she landed her first prominent role in Blake The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

With that in mind, some internet users were quite upset when Ryan claimed that Blake had a “very working class upbringing” and was quick to provide a ton of evidence suggesting otherwise.

“She grew up in an affluent area of Los Angeles with her late father Ernie Lively, an actor and director, while her mother Elaine Lively was an actress and talent manager,” a statement said person pointed out.

“Working-class upbringing and Elie Saab prom dress never go hand in hand. Was that a private bathroom too???” someone wrote when pointing this out Video material from Blake’s high school prom.

The exclusive footage released by Access Hollywood shows Blake dancing to her prom in a luxurious dress by designer Elie Saab and dressing up in her spacious, all-pink bedroom with a chandelier and what appears to be an ensuite bathroom.

Several internet users have since accused Ryan of “trying to be likable” and trying to “cosplay as usual.”

“Jesus Christ, just enjoy your rich life, stop trying to seem likeable to the rest of us,” one person wrote. “Things rich people say out of touch,” another commented.

“Why do ridiculously rich people deny their privilege like this??” one asked, while another said: “Nothing is scarier than celebrities and elites trying to relate to them.”

“I guess working class means different things to everyone these days,” one person said. “Does he think ‘working class’ just means they had jobs?” someone else asked.

“Rich people confuse having a job with being working class. ‘I’m a CEO, I’m working class!'” one user wrote, while another added: “I don’t understand this. Do they really believe this is a working-class upbringing, or are they lying to make it seem like they can identify with the norms?”

Meanwhile, some users joked that the moment seemed reminiscent of David Beckham when he called out his wife Victoria Beckham for pretending to be “working class.”

David hilariously interrupted Victoria as she claimed her family was “very working class”. He told her to “be honest” and tell what car her father took her to school in – and it turned out to be a Rolls Royce.

Referring to the viral moment, one person responded to Ryan’s comments: “Be honest (David Beckham voice),” while another said: “Okay Victoria Beckham.”
