Could OH Leuven be affected by the surprise bankruptcy of Leicester’s sponsor?

Leicester fans are frustrated and worried after it was revealed that the team’s main shirt sponsor, BC.Game, has been declared bankrupt. The company signed a contract just four months ago and many are questioning the due diligence the club carried out on the deal. In Belgium, this raises the question of what impact it will have on the team’s sister club OH Leuven.

OH Leuven has made losses in recent years. Nevertheless, Leicester’s owners have said they are fine with this as they want to remain invested in the club. However, this can change if there are financial problems “at home”. The team has been happy to deceive in recent years, despite investing in the squad. Major signings have not materialized and the club has been looking for a permanent striker since Thomas Henry’s departure to Serie A a few years ago.

The team is struggling in the league under Oscar Garcia. With just three wins in 14 games they are in the bottom four places. If they end the season there, they would be in the relegation playoffs, in which two teams go down. Given that only a late goal prevented the team from finishing on these pitches last season, fans are concerned that a similar pattern will be seen this season. If Leicester ever decide to pull the plug or reduce their investment, the team could be in for a real problem. Developments in England will be kept an eye on over the next few weeks to see if there are any signs of how this will impact OH Leuven in the future, if at all.
