Tuesday wintry mix, Thanksgiving storm ahead

A much more active weather pattern is expected this week, with a mix of rain and winter on Tuesday and a potentially more impactful storm system for Thanksgiving.

Travel Impact

The first system arrived Tuesday morning, affecting some of the morning commute.

It was just cold enough for a wintry mix in northern and central parts of the state, making travel in northern areas or over the mountains a little slippery Tuesday morning. At some point the wintry mix will turn to rain showers in these areas for the evening commute.

A winter weather advisory was in effect for central and northern New Hampshire until 1 p.m. Tuesday.

It will be a cool, rainy day for the rest of New Hampshire before precipitation tapers off after sunset. Rainfall won’t be much more than a quarter to half an inch, but that will help with the ongoing drought in central and southern New Hampshire.

Aside from a few mountain thunderstorms or snow showers far to the north, roads appear to be dry on Wednesday. Clouds increase late in the day. It’s going to be great weather for traveling by road or plane!

The next storm system is likely to pass through Thanksgiving, but much is still unknown at this time. Many models show the storm getting close enough to hit NH on Thursday with snow, mixing and rain throughout the day.

Low pressure is moving toward New Hampshire with rain, wintry mix and snow. The track looks to be close enough to bring severe weather throughout Thanksgiving, with the heaviest snowfall, snow mixing and rain likely in the late morning into early evening hours.

The track will play a crucial role in what we ultimately get out of it in the Granite State. Stay tuned for updates on this topic.
