Somehow, Tank Dell held the ball.

The Houston Texans receiver took a pass into the end zone, but as he caught it, teammate Jared Wayne also dived for the deep ball. Wayne collided with Dell’s left leg and it was immediately clear that Dell had suffered a serious leg injury.

Dell’s teammates immediately became worried about him. Wayne and Texas quarterback CJ Stroud both appeared to be in tears as the car came out for Dell. Stroud had to be comforted by several teammates immediately after the injury.

Not surprisingly, Dell was excluded. The Texans tweeted a message of support for Dell shortly after:

A year ago, Dell’s rookie season was cut short when he suffered a broken fibula. Dell was placed on a stretcher and placed on the cart as several teammates gathered around him.

If Dell’s injury is as bad as it looked, it’s a huge blow to the Texans. The Texans have already lost Stefon Diggs to a season-ending knee injury. Dell had 569 yards and two touchdowns this season. He had a big day Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs with 98 yards and a touchdown.

Given the severity of the injury and the importance he obviously means to his teammates, Dell was hardly concerned. For the second year in a row, Dell’s season appears to have ended prematurely due to a serious injury.
