Clemson’s TJ Parker says of Matthew McConaughey: ‘Who is that?’

After his team’s 34-31 victory over the SMU Mustangs to win the ACC Championship, Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney exclaimed, “I’m going to meet Matthew McConaughey!”

Clemson (10-3 overall) will face the Texas Longhorns (11-2) in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game can be seen on TNT.

McConaughey, a Texas superfan who has been frequently seen at Longhorns games for many years and was a guest on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” is a professor of practice at UT’s Moody College of Communication, the university’s website says.

None of this seems to have made an impression on Clemson’s TJ Parker. The star defensive lineman, who leads the team with 11 sacks and six forced fumbles, said at the end of his media session with reporters on Tuesday that he had never heard of McConaughey.

“No, who is that?” Parker said in response to a reporter who asked if the defensive end was a fan of McConaughey.

When Parker learned McConaughey was an actor, he said:

“I don’t know who that is. I may know his face, but not his name. I do not know him.”

Not everyone shares Swinney’s enthusiasm for meeting the Dazed and confused Star, it seems. All right, all right, then all right.
