The 2 best bets and player props for USC vs. UConn Women’s Basketball

Hartford, Connecticut is the place to be Saturday night when No. 7 USC takes on No. 4 UConn.

Heading into today’s tipoff at 8 p.m. ET, USC (+600) and UConn (+380) are among the four teams with the lowest odds to win the National Championship. There’s plenty of star power on both sides in this matchup, and with March around the corner, this could well be a Final Four preview.

At the start of the weekend, the local Huskies have a 7.5 point advantage and the over/under is 140.5 total points.

Let’s look at the USC-UConn odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbooks College Basketball Odds to browse the best USC-UConn bets and player props.

USC vs UConn Betting Tips

UConn -7.5 (-105)

Although this game features two of college basketball’s best teams, it is not expected to be a particularly close contest. The home Huskies have a 7.5 point advantage over a Trojans team that has only lost one game all season.

But that one loss told us a lot about where this USC team is, so I definitely see value in backing UConn -7.5.

USC’s only loss was by 13 to Notre Dame – the same team that beat UConn by 11 just last week. Even though the final scores don’t look much different there, UConn gave Notre Dame a real game as they were down by just four early in the fourth quarter and down by six with three minutes left.

The Trojans, meanwhile, never led against the Irish after falling behind 20-10 in the first quarter. They managed to get within three points in the third round, but were up to 21 points behind in the final period.

UConn also faced Notre Dame without third-leading scorer Azzi Fudd, but she has a chance to return for today’s game.

Even beyond the result against a similar opponent, UConn is on a different level at this point in the season.

Despite USC’s star power and outstanding record, they haven’t shown the same level of dominance against top teams as UConn. The Trojans (7th on Bart Torvik) faced only three teams in the top 50 of Bart Torvik’s NCAAW Power Ratings. They lost to Notre Dame (5th) and picked up a 2-point win over Ole Miss (25th) and a 13-point win over Oregon (23rd).

On the other hand, UConn has played five teams from Torvik’s top 50 teams. Although they lost to ND, the Huskies beat North Carolina (14th), Ole Miss (25th), Louisville (45th) and Iowa State (39th) by double digits. Their wins over Louisville and Iowa State yielded a combined 66 points.

This consistency against top competition bodes well for their chances of facing USC tonight. Torvik projects UConn to win by 9.2 points, and I tend to support the numbers here. At home – and potentially with Azzi Fudd back – UConn is well positioned as a 7.5-point favorite.

Paige Bueckers over 3.5 assists (-113)

With this game pitting two of the three Wooden Award odds frontrunners against each other, there’s no shortage of interesting player props to consider. But while USC’s Juju Watkins is having an incredible season, UConn’s Paige Bueckers is the person I want to support in the prop market.

UConn forward Sarah Strong came off the bench strong But that didn’t stop Bueckers from scoring 24 points in three straight games. Still, I’m more interested in the over of their assists prop with Strong rolling and Fudd possibly returning.

Bueckers is averaging 4.0 assists per game this season, down from the 4.4 she posted during her four years at UConn. But she has provided at least four assists in seven of 11 games overall, including all five with Fudd active.

She has been forced to take on a stronger goalscoring role in recent games, but remarkably managed to record at least four assists in four out of five real home games.

USC is also a solid matchup for Dimes. The Trojans rank just 292nd nationally in assist rate, and we saw both Notre Dame guards finish the matchup with at least 7 assists. It doesn’t hurt that USC is ranked 32nd in Torvik adjusted tempo, giving Bueckers and UConn a step up (252nd in adjusted tempo).

More possession for UConn means more time with the ball for Bueckers and her team-leading 26.5% usage rate. Therefore, she is in a good position to provide at least four assists in one of UConn’s biggest games of the year.
