Staff Reactions: Ravens beat Steelers in all three phases

The Baltimore Ravens handed the Pittsburgh Steelers their worst loss of the season en route to a 34-17 win to secure a playoff spot. Below are the reactions from Beatdown staff.

Lamar Jackson was at home in front of a cheering crowd for the first time in his quarterback career and threw a hat trick of touchdown passes against the weakened Steelers defense.

The game could have gone wrong. Two mistakes in the first six minutes spelled disaster. Instead, they were both recovered by the Ravens. Luck was on her side.

Thanks to contributions in all three phases, they were on the winning side. Jackson played efficiently. Rashod Bateman, Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews made big plays on offense. Kyle Hamilton, Kyle Van Van Noy and Marlon Humphrey shined on defense and ensured the crowning conclusion to the game. Justin Tucker made two field goals, including a 51-yarder with the wind in his face.

Mistakes could have cost them dearly. They didn’t do that. And instead of a painful loss four days before their Christmas game against the Houston Texans, they’re celebrating a playoff spot and a chance to win the AFC North Division. Cheers to that.

The Ravens overachieved in all three phases of the game with just a few errors against a well-coached Steelers team. A slow start didn’t hamper the offense and the defense kept the pressure on Russell Wilson throughout all four quarters. A perfect day from Justin Tucker and a pick-six from Marlon Humphrey really put an end to one of the Ravens’ best wins against the Steelers in the last decade. The Ravens ended their four-game losing streak against the Steelers and punched their ticket to the postseason with the most satisfying win in years. The offense moved the ball at will most of the game and the Steelers couldn’t stop King Henry from rolling over and through their defense on the ground while Lamar Jackson spun them through the air. On the other side of the ball, they gave up some players and shots on goal, but thanks to the secondary they made three huge momentum plays, including two turnovers, one of which led to their first defensive touchdown of the season and essentially ended the game. The pass rush was breathing down Russell Wilson’s neck the entire game and Justin Tucker made every kick, including a 51-yarder. The Ravens couldn’t have asked for a better win than pulling away late from a heated division rival. Off to Houston! — Joshua Reed\
