Eagles vs. Commanders: First quarter results updates

The Philadelphia Eagles are now 12-2 heading into their Week 16 game against the Washington Commanders and have a chance to become NFC East Champions with a road win.

The mood, at least from the outside, was much better and less loud this week, thanks in no small part to the Eagles’ offense, which proved once and for all that their passing game is still top-notch. Jalen Hurts has done nothing but prove the doubters wrong week after week, and the QB now continues to focus on a multi-dimensional, complementary style of attack.

One concern is that Hurts broke the ring finger on his non-throwing hand sometime before the Steelers game, and the Eagles quarterback admitted that affected his performance last Sunday. It affected his ability to protect the ball — see the fumble in the first quarter — and in other areas. Hurts admitted there was only so much they could do for a broken finger and were not limited by the injury during the week.

At this point, winning the division is the focus, but health must come first. The Eagles have already secured a spot in the playoffs and are likely a high seed. So breaking records and continuing the winning streak is great, but it’s not the end goal of the season.
