Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has put together an MVP campaign despite spending most of the 2024 NFL season with an injury.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Allen broke his hand in Buffalo’s 34-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.

Despite the injury, Allen has put in tremendous performances so far. He has thrown for 3,395 yards for 25 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also passed for 484 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground while establishing himself as one of the most effective dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL.

The Bills became the first team to win their division on December 1 when Allen became the first quarterback in NFL history to score a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown in a win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13 recorded in the same game.

Allen and the Bills then tied the game NFL record on December 15, when the team scored at least 30 points for the eighth straight game in a win over the Detroit Lions in Week 15.

If Allen misses down the road, the Bills could give James Cook and Dalton Kincaid more carries in hopes that a greater focus on the running game can help make up for the lack of Allen’s passing game.

Mitchell Trubisky, who has made seven appearances as a reliever this season, could now be called into the starting lineup as a center player for the first time since he was signed by the Bills in March. Trubisky last started in Week 14 of the 2023 season while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If the Bills do turn to Trubisky, the franchise will hope the move is just a short-term solution. The team’s hopes of winning the first Super Bowl in Buffalo franchise history likely hinge on Allen’s availability going forward.
