NFL Week 16 results and live updates: Eagles Commanders clip, Vikings-Seahawks, playoff picture, standings, injuries, highlights

There was a lot of talk about the Lions and what they would look like after losing two more defensive starters in Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis, as well as RB David Montgomery. What we learned on Sunday is that the Lions can win any game as long as they have Ben Johnson. His bag of tricks runs deep, as evidenced by a play where QB Jared Goff pretends to stumble and RB Jahmyr Gibbs falls to the ground and turns to stall the defense. That freed up TE Sam LaPorta for a touchdown — one of four touchdowns the Lions scored on Sunday. Yes, it was the Bears, but Johnson is capable of taking advantage of the defense week in and week out. Detroit’s defense also contributed with two turnovers and only 17 points allowed on Sunday. It was more than enough for a comfortable victory.

At this point in the year, the Lions are trying to position themselves as best as possible heading into the postseason. They have two games left to achieve their regular season goals of winning the NFC North and securing a first-round bye. They face the 49ers and Vikings to end the season before the playoffs. The Eagles and Vikings remain in the picture, but the Lions control their future. They’ll be motivated to win, and maybe they’ll have enough to do it, despite injuries and all.
