The night sky could offer Wisconsin residents more holiday entertainment after Black Friday shopping is over: There’s a chance the Northern Lights will be visible again.

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center issued a geomagnetic storm warning for Thanksgiving and Black Friday earlier this week. Such storms can cause the lights to appear.

“The Northern Lights could become visible over some northern and upper Midwestern states from New York to Idaho,” the watch said. “If you want to see the aurora, you should check our website for updates.”

When could I see the Northern Lights in Wisconsin?

The Northern Lights could be visible in northern Wisconsin Friday evening, according to a forecast from NOAA’s Space Prediction Weather Center.

Thursday’s forecast has a Kp index of three, meaning there may be more aurora activity. “If you’re in the right place, these auroras can be very beautiful to see,” says NOAA.
