Assessing the biggest overreactions in Week 16’s NFL games

Okay, Jayden Daniels. See you.

The Commanders’ rookie quarterback expanded his growing legend on Sunday with a near-impossible comeback victory over the Eagles, who are in first place in the NFC East. The Eagles, who have repeatedly named themselves the most complete and dangerous team in the league in recent weeks, led 27:14 at the start of the fourth quarter. Yes, they lost starting quarterback Jalen Hurts to a concussion in the first quarter, but considering how this team has been playing on defense lately, Philadelphia seemed in good shape to hold onto the lead.

Instead, Daniels threw two touchdown passes to Olamide Zaccheaus to give Washington a one-point lead with 9:06 to play. And even then, when the Eagles kicked a field goal, intercepted a pass from Daniels in Washington territory and kicked another field goal to take a 33-28 lead with 1:58 left, we all thought, “Well, That’s a brave performance, but the Eagles will persevere here. But Daniels delivered a nine-play, 57-yard touchdown drive that put Washington back on top with six seconds to play. It was the kind of performance that almost requires an overreaction.

We’ll start there and assess a few more potential takeaways from Week 16 as legitimate or irrational.
