More injury updates on Allen. Should Bills likely remain MVP?

The bumps and bruises of an NFL regular season are apparently taking their toll on Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen.

In Sunday’s narrow 24:21 win against the New England Patriots, Allen took a helmet on his hand, but was able to finish the game. He told the media after the game that he lost feeling in his right hand because he threw the football in one spot and didn’t feel it. Allen made sure it took about 5-10 minutes before the feeling returned.

Even with a bruised hand, Allen managed 154 passing yards and 30 rushing yards with one touchdown and one interception. He completed just 55% of his passes with a quarterback rating of 67.3.

With only two games left in the regular season, the Bills still have a lot of work to do. They are still in the race to win the number one seed, two games behind the Kansas City Chiefs. Allen is also still very much in the NFL MVP conversation, having thrown 37 total touchdowns with just six interceptions this season.

The question for Allen and the Bills, given his injury, is whether it’s worth playing the remaining two games against the New York Jets and Patriots.

It was reported back on Sunday that he had been struggling all season with a broken left hand. This has impressed many with his grit and toughness, but if he takes a hit the wrong way, it could derail one of Buffalo’s best seasons in the last 20-30 years.

A lot of what the Bills do with Allen will depend on what happens on Christmas Day between the Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the Chiefs lost this game, the Bills would still be alive and would have no choice but to play Allen. A Chiefs win secures first place for Kansas City and creates a puzzling discussion for Buffalo.

Allen is too big of a competitor to let the Bills give him a break since the No. 2 spot isn’t safe. The Steelers could steal the title if they win their last two games and the Bills lose their last two games due to conference record.

That leaves Buffalo in a situation where Allen has to play at least one more game to give the Bills a safe two-seed and see what happens. Many may think that having Allen on the bench will benefit Buffalo in the long run. Maybe in the final game, but let the MVP drive the Bills home for a better ranking in Week 17 before benching him for the final week.
