‘Love Actually’ Casting Director Reveals the Major Actor Who Wouldn’t Be Cast If the Movie Was Made Now – Film

Actually love is one of the most iconic Christmas films of all time, but the casting director behind the festive favorite has admitted she would be making some big changes.

The popular film was released back in 2003 and stars Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Emma Thompson and Keira Knightley.

Fiona Weir was the casting director for Actually lovewhile Richard Curtis served as director.

Fiona has spoken openly about what changes she would make to the cast if Actually love was made today, although the film featured some big names.

She admitted that Hugh Grant’s role as Prime Minister could be axed if she made the film in 2024 as she now feels a woman would suit the character better.

“The first thing I would do is cast a female prime minister,” casting director Fiona told Metro.

“I think if we were doing it today, Richard would write it completely differently. Twenty years later it is a different country, a different world, a lot has changed.

“So I think it will be a completely different script, you can’t really translate the actors in it. But the only thing I can say is that we would definitely have a female prime minister.”

When asked which actress she suggested for the role of Prime Minister, Fiona revealed this Bridgerton Star Adjoa Andoh is at the top of her casting list.

Elsewhere, Fiona shared her thoughts on Richard’s previous comments on certain aspects Actually love outdated and lacking diversity.

Richard previously explained: “I think I was inattentive and not as smart as I should have been.

“There are things you would change (about the film), but thank God society is changing.”

“My film inevitably feels dated in some moments. The lack of diversity makes me uncomfortable and a bit stupid.”

Fiona agreed with Richard’s comments and highlighted certain comments made about Martine’s character in the 2003 Christmas film, admitting that she felt it was no longer “appropriate”.

“Of course there are some things in there that I would rather not have,” she told Metro. “There’s a particular comment about Martine McCutcheon’s physicality that Richard himself would say he wished wasn’t in there.

“It was something he thought was humorous at the time, but now he realizes it’s not appropriate. I think that’s obviously the case.”

Fiona continued: “But what’s compelling is the completely authentic emotion in it. As they say: Love is everywhere, you don’t always see it. All the characters are wonderful actors.

“Nothing is sent up, it is not cynical in any way. It is joyful and celebratory.

“I think that’s why it endures, because it’s done with a complete lack of cynicism, which is what Richard is all about. Richard is completely devoid of cynicism.”
