Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller are in talks to reprise their roles in a new sequel to Meet the Parents.

According to Deadline, the actors, along with co-stars Blythe Danner and Teri Polo, are in talks to return for an as-yet-unnamed sequel.

The film will be written by series co-author John Hamburg, and a director has not yet been announced.

The original film was released in theaters in 2000 and was a major box office hit, grossing $330 million on a budget of $55 million. De Niro also received a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of the difficult father who tries to intimidate his daughter’s new boyfriend, played by Stiller.

This was followed in 2004 by “Meet the Fockers,” which added Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand to the cast and grossed $522 million worldwide. The third film, Little Fockers, was released in 2010 and grossed $310 million. It received the worst reviews of the series, achieving a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw called it “tired and tiring”.

The cast reunited in 2020 for the 20th anniversary of the original and expressed excitement about a fourth film. “I’m ready,” said De Niro. “There was talk about it. I think it would be great.” Stiller added, “I’m always open to the possibility of working with these people.”

De Niro recently received an Oscar nomination for his performance in Martin Scorsese’s historical drama “Killers of the Flower Moon” and will next be seen in Netflix’s current thriller series “Zero Day.”

Stiller recently starred in the Christmas comedy Nutcracker, his first leading role since 2017. He also directed Apple’s hit drama series Severance.
