Josh Allen injury: The Buffalo Bills quarterback is doing well after grip scare

Buffalo Blls quarterback Josh Allen was injured against the New England Patriots. It was completely clear, but the QB says he felt fine after the game.

In the fourth quarter of Week 16, Allen ran the ball on a harmless play. On the next throw, the ball sailed towards him and fans wondered if it was the cold or something else. It turned out to be something else.

Allen was shown on the sidelines flexing his right hand and shaking it repeatedly. While Allen struggled, the Bills’ defense forced a fumble and scored a touchdown. When Allen came back into the game, they didn’t let him pass the ball with his right hand, but instead threw it to his running backs. Allen was able to make a few passes and address the immediate concerns, and on the final play, he was able to get a short quarterback sneak to give the Bills a first down.

“I don’t know if it was the elbow, the helmet or the ground, but I lost some feeling in my hand,” Allen said. “I just hit the funny bone nerve and wanted to throw the ball, but I just had no feeling in my hand. So it’s a difficult question.”

The MVP front-runner didn’t miss a beat thanks to his strong defensive performance, but things didn’t go smoothly for him. He spoke to reporters after the game.

“When it’s that cold, the more you leave it out, the more the whole hand gets,” Allen said. “So it was a strange feeling. I’m just glad it’s gone now.”

Allen could be seen continuing to try to warm up his hand in his personal warming device and with the heaters on the sideline. He used his left hand to interact with the tablet on the sideline to keep his throwing hand warm.

“It took a good five to 10 minutes,” Allen said as he returned the feeling in his hand. “I’m just making sure there’s some blood flowing there again, some activation.”

Allen admitted that he might not have been able to take a snap if the defense had forced a turnover and the offense had had to go down the field. But everyone believes that things will go well in the future.

“They cleared him to go back and play,” head coach Sean McDermott said. “Our medical staff are doing an excellent job. If it’s not safe for a player, they won’t send him back out. I trust them and they have given me the green light to go back out there.”

Before the game, it was reported that Allen suffered a fractured left hand in Week 1 and that he continued to play with it.
