Bill Murray crashes on a pianist’s set at NYC hotspot Bemelmans

Who other than Bill Murray would you call to crash a set?

The “Ghostbusters” actor, known for interrupting events like a White House press conference, a bachelorette party and even a couple’s engagement photo shoot, was at it again on Wednesday when he crashed a piano player’s concert.

Murray, 74, was a spectator at Bemelmans Bar in the famous Carlyle Hotel on the Upper East Side, listening to the sounds of singing jazz pianist Robert Mosci, when he felt the need to join in.

“I didn’t know he was coming. The way it played out was fast and fun,” pianist Robert Mosci, the pianist in question, told The Post.

“He came up to me and said, ‘Hey, do you know the song ‘Brandy’?”

“In hindsight, I should have just given him the microphone,” Mosci told The Post. Courtesy of Robert Mosci

Mosci admitted he had never played it before, but Murray was undeterred.

“He said, ‘Well, the guy who wrote it is here. His name is Elliot Lurie, and if you could do it, that would be great,” recalls Mosci, a Queens native who now lives on Staten Island.

To appease him, Mosci – who was sitting between songs – quickly used an app on his phone to read the sheet music for the New Jersey pop-rock band’s 1972 chart-topper “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl).” Buy Looking Glass.

“And I started singing it. And then about three seconds later, Bill Murray screams into the microphone in my ear,” he said. “It was so loud. In hindsight, I should have just given him the microphone.”

Lurie, the lead singer of Looking Glass, also sang along.

“Everyone in Bemelmans had a great time. It was a lot of fun,” Mosci said.

The former “Saturday Night Live” star was well known at the hotel, so it wasn’t surprising that he was there that night, Mosci said.

“He’s a regular when he’s in town, he stays at the Carlyle and has done a few films at Bemelmans. He’s kind of an insider with a lot of people who work there,” he explained.

Mosci, who has been playing at Bemelmans for 15 years, said he is used to the star-studded clientele the legendary venue attracts.

“We constantly have celebrities as our guests. I mean, almost everyone you can imagine has been there,” he said.

“Tom Hanks was there six months ago, Scarlett Johansson. I saw George Clooney, Bill Clinton, Jennifer Aniston, Bono and Al Pacino.”

He saw the upscale piano bar’s popularity surge after Prince Harry stayed with his wife Meghan Markle in 2021 at The Carlyle, a favorite hotel of his mother, Princess Diana.

“It’s always been a popular place, but I think it got really hot a few years ago after the pandemic when Prince Harry was there for a few days,” he said.

“It just caught on, with a slightly younger audience than before.”
