SpaceX launches 21 Starlink internet satellites from Florida and lands rocket in sea (Photos)

SpaceX launched 21 Starlink internet satellites from Florida’s Space Coast early Monday morning (Dec. 23), landing the returning rocket on a ship at sea.

A Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Starlink spacecraft – 13 of which can transmit directly to cell phones – lifted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 12:35 a.m. EDT (05:35 GMT) today.

The Falcon 9’s first stage returned to Earth as planned, landing in the Atlantic Ocean about eight minutes after liftoff on the SpaceX Just Read the Instructions drone ship.

According to a SpaceX mission description, it was the 15th launch and landing of this particular launch vehicle. Eight of these flights were Starlink missions.
