Dune: Prophecy season 2 release date, cast and what we know so far

(Ed. Note: This story contains spoilers for Dune: Prophecy Season 1.)

Dune: Prophecy blew everything up. Not literally – but in a season that began with careful backroom deals and manipulations, prophecyThe finale, in which all the maneuvers are revealed, is a dramatic shift in tone for the series. As the first season ends with Valya (Emily Watson) escaping to Arrakis alongside Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason), the table is set for an epic, planet-spanning war. (This is Dune, after all.)

And with some dramatic entries and exits (more on that below), the way forward is open for the Bene Gesserit Dune: Prophecy is less clear than ever. So what will a second season bring for the Empire? Here’s everything we know Dune: ProphecySeason 2.

Is Dune: Prophecy Season 2 Happening?

Dune: Prophecy is coming back for another season. Warner Bros. announced that the show would return for season two on Thursday, just days before the season one finale. It has not been announced how many episodes this new season will contain.

When will the second season of Dune: Prophecy be released?

This is something Warner Bros. hasn’t announced yet, so we have no real idea of when this new season might arrive. It’s technically possible that filming has already started, but pretty unlikely. If the schedule works out, the show could return for another season next year. But it’s much more likely that the film will begin filming next year and be ready for a 2026 release. This pattern would also fit similar current Warner Bros. shows, including The Last of Us And House of the Dragon.

What is Dune: Prophecy Season 2 about?

The series’ first season finale provides a surprisingly clear plan for the second season’s plot. For example, we know the Emperor is dead, and the Bene Gesserit are probably blamed. We know that Desmond Hart is alive and that his eye is an infectious disease robot, and that knowing his true parentage apparently hasn’t tempered his hatred of the Bene Gesserit either.

Meanwhile, there’s an uprising at the Sisterhood’s home base led by a Venerable Mother spirit possessing the body of a young acolyte – so who knows where this plot will lead.

At the heart of it all is the betrayal between Valya and Tula (Olivia Williams), with the latter eventually revealing that her son survived birth and she hid him – and now knows he has become Desmond Hart. When she learns of such a massive betrayal from a sister who she believes is in step with the Sisterhood’s vision, it’s quite a shock to the two who run the order, to say the least. “It blew everything up, but I think Valya is probably still of the opinion, ‘I am the chosen one, I have destiny’ – (that) is still her guiding light,” Watson said at a press conference before the Final. “(And) I think Valya’s instinct is to flee into the shadows.”

It’s certainly a change for the sisters – especially since Tula is immediately arrested by her own son and his Imperial soldiers. With that in mind, there are certainly more storylines to be tackled in the show’s second season, but that’s a fairly complicated starting point to say the least. Especially since after Venerable Mother Valya’s arrival on Arrakis, it’s not entirely clear whether she wants to end a war or start one.

“After a season in which Arrakis sort of exerted his pull from afar (…) to actually set foot on the ground in this incredibly overdetermined and almost mythical dune space that we know very well, we kind of kept him at a distance “Throughout the season,” showrunner Alison Schapker said at a press conference, “it’s very significant that Valya is back.”

“I would just say: I think Valya is there. I think Valya will find out a lot more, considering she’s basically where Desmond appeared as an enemy. And it will be interesting to see what she finds out there.”

Will Dune 3 release before the new season of Dune: Prophecy?

That’s a very good question. Dune 3 The release is currently scheduled for December 18, 2026. So if everything goes well, prophecy Season 2 could release sometime in September or October 2026 and would be a perfect lead-in to the release of the new film. On the other hand, if schedules go awry, we could end up with a similar situation to this year: a new Dune movie hits theaters and the TV show follows roughly nine months later.
