NFL Playoff Odds: With the win and the Bucs loss, the Falcons are still slight underdogs to win the NFC South

There is chaos in the NFC South. The Falcons (8-7) defeated the Giants 34-7 on Sunday, and the Buccaneers (8-7) lost to the Cowboys 26-24 on Sunday Night Football. With Sunday’s results, Atlanta is now a +115 underdog to clinch the NFC South crown, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Falcons are once again in control of their own destiny after surrendering the division lead to the Bucs during their four-game losing streak. By defeating Tampa Bay in the season round, Atlanta advances to the playoffs if the two teams finish the year with identical records thanks to a tiebreaker.

If the Falcons win, they will secure their first NFC South title since 2016. To punch their postseason ticket, they just need to hold the Bucs’ record to the end.

Rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. made his NFL debut on Sunday and his stats belie how effective he looked on the field. Penix completed 18 of 27 pass attempts for 202 yards and one interception (that wasn’t his fault) and was victimized multiple times in key situations. He appeared confident in the pocket and completed several passes across the middle of the field to keep the chains moving.

His job will be to continue that passing performance against the Commanders (10-5) on Sunday Night Football, by far the Falcons’ toughest challenge yet on the schedule.

Atlanta enters next week on the road against Washington as 4.5 point underdogs.
