Former O’Jays singer and R&B legend Eddie Levert is mourning the loss of his youngest child, daughter Ryan Levert, who has reportedly passed away at the age of 22.

After the sad news surfaced online, it was confirmed by Carlysia Levert, the daughter of Eddie’s late son Gerald Levert. She shared some photos on her Instagram story of Ryan with the caption: “Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for my family. Please send extra love to my dad and grandma.” She also shared a post from The RNB Talk Show site that said Ryan passed away after a battle with lupus. Ryan was featured on an entertaining podcast, The Levert Opinion, alongside her father and grandson LeMicah (Gerald’s son).

Eddie, known for his singing talent with the O’Jays, has struggled with immense loss over the years. As mentioned, Gerald, known for singing with Levert and LSG, died suddenly in 2006. He was 40 years old. Eddie’s younger son, Sean Levert, died in 2008 at the age of 39.

“I wish I could tell you that I had a feeling for it, but I don’t,” he told The Plain Dealer in 2011 when discussing the unexpected losses. “I still ask myself: Was it something I did? Maybe that’s why I’ve made so many changes in my life to improve myself and try to be a better father, a better husband, a better friend. Maybe that’s why: to get to a better place. But I can’t go into more detail. It will be very emotional for me. I really miss her. It’s just hard. But I can’t accept that it wasn’t meant to be, because it happened. And there was nothing I could do about it.”

Eddie shared Gerald and Sean with his ex-wife Martha. He shared Ryan with his wife Raquel Capelton. This Plain Dealer interview noted that Eddie has four other adult children, including daughter Kandice from his marriage to Martha.

In 2011, Levert noted that he found comfort and strength in reading about Job in the Bible.

“My closeness to God helped me a lot,” he said. “I am by no means a Holy Roller. But I believe. There are only two types of people in the world: believers and unbelievers. I happen to be a believer.”

Eddie added: “I read the book of Job. He has lost everything. I haven’t lost everything. I lost two sons. It’s not trivial. But compared to someone who lost their entire family – see? — I had something left. God is still great. I kept praying to God and God kept giving me strength. There were days when I cried like a baby and just cried. I still have those moments. But I have a goal now.”
