Recall of organic Costco eggs, including in Georgia, upgraded to highest hazard level by FDA

A recent recall of Kirkland Organic eggs sold at Costco by Handsome Brook Farms has been upgraded to the highest health hazard in the federal system.

As Channel 2 action news As previously reported, the eggs were voluntarily recalled in late November due to the risk of salmonella exposure.

Now the 24-egg packs sold at Costco in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee have been upgraded to a Class I hazard, meaning they “present a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that that use of or contact with a harmful product will result in serious health consequences or death.”

Previously, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a recall of nearly 11,000 retail units of organic eggs due to possible salmonella contamination.

At the time the recall was announced, Handsome Brook Farms said the eggs had been sold at 25 locations.

“The recall was initiated after the company discovered that eggs not intended for retail distribution were instead packaged and distributed in retail packaging. Additional controls and retraining in the supply chain will be implemented to prevent a recurrence,” the company said.

To find out if your eggs are on the recall list, you should know the following:

  • The item is 24 eggs from organic pasture farming UPC 9661910680

  • Sold from November 22, 2024

  • Has an expiration date of January 6, 2025

There have been no reports of illness so far.
