Neighbors in a quiet corner say USPS is no longer delivering packages to their homes

BROOKLYN, CT (WFSB) – It’s a package issue that’s occurring at one of the busiest times of the year: neighbors near Brooklyn, Connecticut, report the post office has stopped delivering packages to their homes. They asked the I-Team for help.

Gino Paulino and Michelle Murray are neighbors in Scotland. Both say they order a lot of packages this time of year.

“Lots of Christmas presents for the family,” Paulino said.

“I’ve been shopping like crazy on Amazon for my kids lately. My husband has that too. That’s a lot,” Murray said.

Both say that instead of receiving packages at their door, they received notes in their mailbox from USPS saying they needed to pick up their packages at the post office.

“For us it’s about a 20-minute round trip, so you can imagine having to drive there every day during the holidays, it just gets a little much,” Paulino said.

Paulino’s driveway is about a quarter mile long, but Murray’s driveway is much shorter. You can see Murray’s house from the street and it only took the I-Team about 20 seconds to walk up the driveway. Murray says she has lived there for 22 years and has never had this problem.

“Oh, it’s annoying. You know, you don’t have enough time in the day anyway, you know, you would hope it’s sitting at your house, but you have to drive to Hampton and possibly Brooklyn. That’s a 20 minute drive. It’s not the most comfortable,” Murray said.

A Hampton homeowner sent the I-Team a photo showing the mailman pushing his package into the mailbox instead of a note. The homeowner says the cards in the box were crumpled and ruined.

Another Scottish homeowner sent us a video that she said shows someone from the post office coming to her house after she complained. The homeowner then received packages again with the words “Approved Driveway” written on them in red.

USPS sent the I-Team the following statement:

“Our trucks are not allowed to turn or reverse at the end of the driveway.

Additionally, private driveways have many obstacles that may be invisible, including, but not limited to, children, additional vehicles, and buildings.”

“It was never a problem until a few weeks ago,” Paulino said

The I-Team asked USPS to clarify whether this is a new policy and asked us to provide specific addresses to review.
