Shakur Stevenson: Haney is a “public attraction,” open to 140 players

Shakur Stevenson says he would be open to moving up to 140 in 2025 to fight Devin Haney because he feels he is aAttraction to the public.” The timing isn’t ideal for a Haney-Shakur fight next year.

Former two-division world champion Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) was riding high and picked opponents to beat to win two division world titles. However, the 26-year-old Devin has not been seen since his emphatic loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20, and there are many questions as to whether he will bounce back from that loss.

Shakur vs. Haney in 2025?

Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) already has everything lined up for 2025, with a title defense of his WBC lightweight belt against newcomer Floyd Schofield on Turki Alalashich’s card on February 22 in Riyadh and then potentially a title fight against #1 contender William Zepeda in summer.

A third fight against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in 2025 is also possible, provided the match is negotiable. The money issue will determine whether Tank agrees to fight Shakur. Tank would have to be made a massive offer.

“We could make the fight. It’s all up to Devin too. I am ready to fight any fighter. They called me three times to negotiate. “I’m willing to go up to 140 because I think Devin Haney is an attraction for the public and I think it would make sense,” Shakur Stevenson said on the Bet On Yourself podcast when asked if he would be interested in fighting Devin Haney.

“Whatever you’ve seen of me, you’ll see a better version on February 22nd,” Shakur said of his title defense against newcomer Floyd Schofield in Riyadh. “I said if Zepeda ducked me, I would fight him. Many casual fans know this kid and think he’s a good fighter.

“I also want to win who the casual players like. If the casual players like this guy. “I’m going to face an occasional favorite,” Shakur said of why he chose Schofield as his next opponent.”

Shakur’s next fight

It’s interesting to hear Shakur explain his reasons for choosing the 22-year-old Schofield as his next opponent rather than the more dangerous Andy Cruz or Raymond Muratalla.

Saying he focuses on who the casuals like is a weak argument for why Shakur chose Schofield over Muratalla. Stevenson appears to have chosen Floyd Jr. because he is a simple, no-risk fighter. Schofield is an inexperienced prospect who has appeared beatable in his recent battles against second division opponents.

After Shakur’s close encounter with Edwin De Los Santos last year in which he almost lost, he’s not taking any chances on fighting well and risking the tank fight going on ice.

Shakur wants the pot of gold he can get in the fight against Gervonta Davis, and if he fights Cruz or Muratalla, he could get beaten. At this point the gold bar disappears.
