How the Red Sox’s new starter has already conquered the bright lights of the AL East

Walker Buehler is reportedly joining the Boston Red Sox on a one-year deal to complete an impressive rotation rebuilding project.

The 30-year-old has already won two World Series championships in his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. During his emergence as one of the sport’s more established starters, he made several statements against American League East teams.

The Red Sox certainly remember his underwhelming start against Boston in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series, when the Dodgers won their only game in an extra-inning thriller. Buehler pitched six innings with just three hits and one run allowed with 10 strikeouts against the Red Sox.

The right-hander also appealed to Red Sox Nation as a pitcher, shutting out the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series and shutting out Alex Verdugo in the finale.

Buehler’s regular-season sample size against the division is limited but impressive. He posted 23 strikeouts with a 0.96 ERA in three career starts against the AL East, providing added incentive for the overall talent the Red Sox add to their rotation. Buehler fits in well with his offseason colleague Garrett Crochet and young starters Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford, as well as returning veteran Lucas Giolito.
