Packers vs. Saints results update, highlights: Green Bay strikes first

The New Orleans Saints are officially out of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are just one win away from securing a playoff spot.

It’s safe to say that a team has a little more to offer Monday Night Football than the other team. That being said, despite their poor record, the Saints have done a great job of keeping games close under interim coach Darren Rizzi.

New Orleans loses its two most influential players, quarterback Derek Carr and running back Alvin Kamara, while rookie Spencer Rattler will make his first outdoor start of his NFL career at frigid Lambeau Field. However, Green Bay is dealing with a number of injuries as they will be without three preferred starting defenders in this game, which will likely move safety Zayne Anderson into the starting lineup.

First quarter summary

The Packers opened the game with a triple-option play in which quarterback Jordan Love threw the ball out of the backfield to receiver Jayden Reed. The biggest play of the drive, however, came when running back Josh Jacobs not only ran for a first down, but also knocked safety Tyrann Mathieu to the ground with a stiff arm, almost leading to a six-pointer.

After the Packers failed to get the ball into the end zone on a goal line inside Dontayvion Wicks’ court that looked like it was straight out of the Kansas City Chiefs playbook, Love Wicks scored on the very next play for the score. This is just Wick’s second touchdown since September 29, when he recorded two receiving touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings. Packers 7, Saints 0
