Tennessee freshman Bishop Boswell is out of the Vols’ game against MTSU on Monday night with a shoulder injury.

Boswell suffered a right shoulder injury while playing in the second half of Tennessee’s 84-36 win over Western Carolina last week. The 6-foot-3 combo guard wore a sling after the game.

The freshman point guard is averaging 0.6 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game in 3.9 minutes per game this season. Boswell is on the fringes of Tennessee’s rotation against top competition but has played more minutes in buying games.

Boswell is a defensive first guard who is a great fit for Rick Barnes’ program. He played six minutes in the second half of Tennessee’s win over Illinois while starters Zakai Zeigler and Chaz Lanier struggled with foul trouble. Boswell gave the Vols good minutes in the win, grabbing three rebounds and playing strong defense.

More from RTI: Underclassmen wing leaves Tennessee basketball program

It was a remarkable day for news on the Tennessee basketball roster. Sophomore winger Cam Carr is leaving the Volunteer program after a year and a half with the intention of transferring. Combine Carr’s departure with Boswell’s injury and JP Estrella’s season-ending foot injury, and the Vols are down to eight scholarship players against the Blue Raiders.

Tennessee is 11-0 and is ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll for the third straight year after defeating Western Carolina in its only game last week. The Vols have six wins over Power Five teams this season and two wins over top-25 teams at this point in the season.

The Vols are 26.5-point favorites over MTSU and the over/under is 144.5 according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Tipoff between Tennessee and MTSU is Monday night at 7:00 p.m. ET. Roy Philpott and Dane Bradshaw are in talks for the SEC Network.
