Daniel Stern says he hasn’t seen Home Alone since its premiere

Home alone Actor Daniel Stern says that despite its enduring popularity, he has only seen the film in its entirety once: when it premiered in 1990.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Stern — who played half of the “Wet Bandits” in the film — said, “I’ve seen clips. I saw them appear. Or something like that, they have highlights when you turn around” on the TV, I turn on the TV and I notice the toys or something.

“But yeah, I mean, what, should I sit and watch myself?” Stern, 67, continued. “I love the film. He’s great. I know the script inside and out.”

In recent years, Stern has traded in his former Wet Bandit identity for something much more in keeping with his current life – that of a citrus and rancher and an artist who creates sculptures in bronze.

As he explained to PEOPLE, Stern’s relationship with his films is similar to that of his sculptures—once they’re done, it’s time to move on.

“Once I’m done with them, they’re not dead…Creatively speaking, they’re done,” Stern said. “I have to move on to the next film. My mind is completely focused on the next thing I’m doing. And by the time the movie comes out, it’s been a year and it’s great, but I don’t want to.” I did it. The script was good. ”

As he explained to PEOPLE, Stern’s decision to buy a ranch and “step away” from the public eye was a way to break away from the “overwhelming” reality of being a big star.

“I made enough money that I didn’t have to work,” he said. “I made enough money and I’m pretty frugal… I bought the house in cash. I bought the cars in cash. I bought everything straight away because as an artist I never knew if I would make something.” More bread. And I said to my wife, “How much money do I have to have in the bank so we can live off the interest and I don’t have to work?” She said, “We did it.” It was like, “Okay, Dan , now you will put your words into action” … “What should I do with this? Am I going to continue to chase another role or something?”
