Harry Potter fans disagree on whether you should watch the film around Christmas

The Harry Potter films have become an integral part of the Christmas season and often find their way onto television programs as part of the popular Christmas film marathons.

Although not typically classified as Christmas films, many fans around the world consider Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, along with the rest of the series, an essential part of their Christmas celebrations.

Despite the darker themes that run through much of the series, it is the first film’s magical moments, particularly its Christmas scenes, that sparked debate over whether it should be considered a festive classic.

Even the official Harry Potter TikTok account weighed in on the discussion, offering three compelling reasons why the first film definitely deserves a spot on the Christmas movie list.

First, the snowy scenes. The TikTok post highlights the “beautiful” winter landscapes and festive decorations that adorn the Great Hall at Hogwarts.

“Just look at Hagrid dragging the giant tree,” the post reads, alongside a clip of the iconic moment. “Imagine how great it would feel to walk into the Great Hall and be surrounded by giant Christmas trees.”

The second reason they cite is the film’s soundtrack. With its tinkling bells and stirring orchestral scores, the music is undeniably festive, evoking the same warmth and nostalgia as the holidays themselves. “There’s something that reminds us of Christmas,” the TikToker notes, underscoring the magical atmosphere that surrounds the whole thing Film penetrates.

Finally, the emotional resonance of Harry’s first real Christmas is another important argument for the film’s holiday status. The scene where Harry wakes up on Christmas morning with a present after years of neglect by the Dursleys.

“Harry waking up with a Christmas present on Christmas Day is one of the most heartwarming scenes in the entire film,” they write.

Fans were quick to express their agreement in the comments, saying: “Any movie that has a Christmas party, Christmas decorations or a Christmas theme… is a Christmas movie to me.” Another agreed: “My favorite Halloween and Christmas movie – Harry Potter.”

Others shared their own Christmas traditions, with one fan explaining: “My wife always wants to do a movie marathon on Halloween since they’re witches and wizards, but they’ve always given me a more Christmassy vibe for that very reason.” One even went As far as saying, “More Christmas than Die Hard I said it.”

With so much love for the festive spirit of Harry Potter, this magical story seems to be as much a part of the holiday season for many as any classic Christmas film.
