Checkmate! Taylor Swift reveals behind-the-scenes insights into her ‘Eras’ tour

Fanning out in the stands on her soon-to-end Eras Tour, Taylor Swift certainly missed a lot of the Easter eggs she’s been hiding in plain sight.

The billionaire singer-songwriter’s “Eras Tour Book” hit shelves on Black Friday, revealing previously unknown details about the record-breaking concert series that spanned 21 months across five continents.

The 256-page hardcover, priced at $39.99, was available at Target stores, which are in desperate need of a boost after the company’s latest quarterly earnings report fell well short of Wall Street expectations. The retailer is also exclusively selling The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology album on vinyl and CD along with the book.

Online sales are scheduled to begin on Saturday.

The initial print run was 2 million copies, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The book marks Swift’s latest, presumably successful, attempt to monetize her music beyond concerts and recordings. Her film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was the highest-grossing domestic concert film of all time.

Fans had to strategize and plan the best time to tackle the massive lines for merchandise at their shows.

In the book, Swift goes deep into the vault to reveal:

  • In her performance of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” she spins on a small, moving platform that fans have likened to a Roomba cleaner. Swift’s book reveals that it is not automated: “The ‘rover’ platform on which I travel is actually operated by a crew member who lies within the platform and controls it from within.”
  • Dancers in “Mastermind” glide onto a checkered, black-and-white stage that doesn’t involve checkers: “And as for ‘Mastermind,’ we’re building a replica of a chessboard, and when I give the signal to the dancers, move to different places “To move on the board, they actually create the exact order for a checkmate.”
  • Fans have long known that Swift rolled backstage hidden in a caretaker’s car. She revealed on Friday that the short, claustrophobic journey was relatively comfortable with a seat and decorated walls.

Swift’s tour ends next weekend with three shows at BC Place in Vancouver.

The shows on the “Eras Tour” run with military precision and always start on time. According to the book, Swift plays nearly four dozen songs in an average of three hours and 15 minutes.

She called it the “Eras Tour” because it included songs from her albums “Lover,” “Fearless,” “Red,” “Speak Now,” “Reputation,” “Folklore,” “Evermore,” “1989” and “Midnights “contained” and “The Tortured Poets Department”.

Swift thanked fans and said there was more to come, concluding the book by saying, “See you in the next era.”
