Al Michaels hilariously blasted referees after “accelerated review” in Chiefs-Raiders

Al Michaels never had time for shenanigans.

As Friday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders neared halftime, Michaels perfectly expressed his frustration with the referees after a replay decision took a little too long to come down from above.

The call came after a throw from Patrick Mahomes to Noah Gray was initially ruled incomplete. There were 14 seconds left on the clock at the time of the call, but after an “accelerated review” switched the call to a completed pass, there was a mandatory 10-second run-off lap.

In fairness to the referees running the game, it’s not a simple series of rule interpretations, and the referees took a moment to explain to Chiefs coach Andy Reid what was going on .

But when the referee tried to claim that the review was “expedited” after all the back and forth, Michaels couldn’t help but hit back.

“If this is an expedited review, I’m an astronaut,” Michaels told the airwaves.

Fans praised Michaels for his openness.

With the clock running out, the Chiefs were able to spike the ball into a field goal to end the half, but kicker Matthew Wright failed on the 59-yard attempt.
