COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – More clouds tonight with a slight chance of showers, mostly to our east.

First headlines

• Cloud cover will increase followed by a few showers overnight.
• Spicy and dry for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
• More rain is expected across the Midlands this weekend.

Summary of the first warning

Tonight the disturbance offshore will intensify, creating an offshore rip current which will favor a round of light rain. These isolated showers will be possible, so our chance of rain is around 20%. Most of these light, transient showers will occur along I-95. Temperatures will drop to the low and mid 30s.

After a cloudy start to Christmas Eve, the sky will clear as the day progresses. It will be mostly sunny in the afternoon, with highs around 50°C. When Santa Claus arrives we will be mostly clear and cold. Temperatures will drop to as low as 30°C on Christmas morning.

Even if the clouds increase again, it looks dry and calm on Christmas Day. If you plan to spend time outdoors, the temperatures are pleasant for this time of year. They will peak in the upper 50s. Rain chances will increase again during the last weekend of 2024.

First alarm forecast

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a few showers overnight. These will primarily occur along I-95. Chance of rain 20%. Lows will be in the low to mid 30s.

Christmas Eve: Slight chance of a rain shower remaining in the morning. Then the sky clears. Highs in the mid 50s.

Christmas Day: Cloud cover will increase throughout the day. Highs will reach the upper 50s under partly cloudy skies.

Thursday: A mix of clouds and sunshine. Highs in the upper 50s.

Friday: Cloud cover will increase, becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 50s.
