Ashton Jeanty praised his Boise State teammates with class after a record-setting performance

Ashton Jeanty made another compelling case for the Heisman Trophy in Boise State’s 34-18 win over Oregon State on Friday, as the Broncos’ star running back ran for 226 yards and a touchdown, setting the Mountain West Conference rushing record in a season as well as Boise State’s single-season scrimmage yards record.

Speaking to FOX Sports’ Josh Sims after the game, Jeanty was asked about his great performance and what it meant for the Broncos. Instead of talking about himself, Jeanty gave an elegant greeting to his teammates.

“First of all, I have to give all the glory to God,” Jeanty said. “But it felt great, man. Not just for me, but also for the team. The personal success I have doesn’t just come from me. It comes from team success and great offensive and defensive play.”

Jeanty currently trails only one man in the Heisman Trophy race – two-way sensation Travis Hunter from Colorado. While Hunter had another great game on Friday, Jeanty’s numbers are undeniably Heisman-worthy.

Given Jeanty’s staggering numbers – he racked up 2,288 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns in the regular season – it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him grab some of the spotlight. This is a player who broke Barry Sanders’ FBS single-season rushing record and set a number of program records this season.

But as this answer shows, that’s clearly not the type of teammate Jeanty is.
