Minnesotans go to the movies to celebrate Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving traditions vary from family to family.

Some cook a lot of food to accommodate friends and family in one place.

Others come up with creative ways to spend time together.

A popular thing that many people do is look at the latest box office results.

FOX 9 went to an AMC theater to see what movies people wanted to see this Turkey vacation.

What attracts the crowds?

Many names FOX 9 heard were Gladiator II, Wicked and Moana 2.

The cinemas were busy with children out of school and families enjoying the popular box office.

For some, it’s about creating variety on Thanksgiving.

“Instead of staying home and feeling bad about being alone on Thanksgiving, we watched a great movie,” Jodene Wartman said.

Jodene and Mike Wartman went to the AMC theater to see Wicked. Their Thanksgiving was celebrated a day early this year.

“We had our family Thanksgiving yesterday and our two children are with their in-laws today,” said Jodene Wartman.

For others, there was a feast and roast beef before moving their feet to enjoy the movie “The Wild Robot.”

“We had enough of the house all morning because it was cold outside. “So we’re excited to get out there and do something different,” said Graham Poage.

In the meantime, some had enough family time for the big Thanksgiving meal and wanted to meet up with friends.

“Because we were all kind of looking for something to do today. We used to deal with family. And now we’re having Friendsgiving at the movie theater,” Rebecca Swenson said.

The cinema has so many options this holiday weekend. Jodene and Mike Wartman might have their hands full checking out the latest movies this holiday season.

“Maybe we’ll see Gladiator II at some point, or maybe Moana 2, they’re both out pretty quickly, right?” said Mike Wartman.

What’s next?

The fun doesn’t stop there. More films are scheduled to hit cinemas before Christmas, such as “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and “Mufasa: The Lion King”.

This program shows that film fans have a lot to enjoy this holiday season.
