American Airlines reports “technical issue” affecting all flights

American Airlines reported a widespread “technical issue” Tuesday affecting all flights as many Americans travel for the holidays.

A report from the Air Traffic Control System Command Center shows that the airline has ordered a nationwide ground stop on Christmas Eve.

“We are currently experiencing a technical issue on all American Airlines flights,” the airline wrote on X. “Your safety is our top priority. Once the problem is resolved, we will get you safely on your way to your destination.”

“Our team is currently working to make this happen,” the airline added in a second post. “An estimated time frame was not provided, but they are trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

The airline initially did not provide any further information about the problem.

As of 7:10 a.m., 1,979 outages had been reported on American Airlines, according to DownDetector, a website that provides an overview of problems and outages across various services.
