Santa Claus is coming. Here's how to follow him

Santa Claus travels all over the world delivering presents, and you can follow his progress throughout Christmas Eve.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and Google both offer live Santa tracking tools in the US and Canada. You can also check out the Detroit Free Press YouTube channel.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture also issued a transit permit for Santa Claus and his “eight tiny reindeer” to allow the “reindeers to enter and exit the United States” between 6:00 p.m. on December 24th and 6:00 a.m. on December 25th (local time ) through or permitted through any U.S. border or port of entry.

NORAD’s long tradition of tracking Santa Claus grew out of a mistake in 1955. Legend has it that an ad in a Colorado Springs newspaper asked children to call Santa Claus, but accidentally gave the phone number for the Continental Air Defense Command , the predecessor of NORAD, which was based in Colorado Springs.

Despite the mistake, officials at the base went along with it. Since then, NORAD Tracks Santa has gone global and receives calls from all over the world Posting updates on social media for millions of fans and updates its website to track Santa’s progress on Christmas Eve.
