Possible storms on Christmas Eve lead to a first weather alert day

It was a wonderful weekend! However, major changes in the forecast are expected as the holiday week begins.

A southerly wind brings sufficient moisture to North Texas. This will bring a cloudy day on Monday with the possibility of drizzle and mist throughout the day. Highs will be over 60 degrees, about 10 degrees above normal!

The First Alert Weather Team issued an initial warning on Christmas Eve due to a large frontal passage that will move through the area early Tuesday morning into the afternoon. The Storm Predication Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for the threat of a single severe storm, with damaging winds and hail as the primary threat.

Storms will flare up in western counties early this morning. The DFW Metroplex will experience the most storms in the afternoon and southeastern counties will be impacted in the evening.

There will be some lingering cloud cover behind the front, but conditions look to clear up as the day progresses on Christmas Day!

Another front will move across the region on Thursday, bringing the risk of further strong storms throughout the day.

A fair amount of precipitation is expected over the next few days, with over 3 inches possible in the eastern counties. In fact, there may be excessive rainfall on Christmas Eve, creating a risk of flooding and traffic jams on the roads.

Santa will have to swap his coat for a rain jacket on Christmas Eve and Thursday if he decides to stay in the area! Otherwise, conditions for next weekend are starting to clear up. Stay tuned and happy holidays!
