Is Starbucks open on Christmas and Christmas Eve? Shop opening times despite strikes

Starbucks is at the center of a labor dispute that could impact operations during the holiday season. Workers at hundreds of stores across the United States are on strike, demanding better wages, benefits and working conditions during one of the busiest times of the year.

While most locations are expected to remain open and the company said Monday that the strike had “no significant impact” on store operations, the labor action could disrupt several high-profile stores in key markets such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Whether you’re enjoying a latte macchiato on Christmas morning or a mocha on New Year’s Eve, customers should check their local store’s opening hours in advance.

Is Starbucks open on Christmas Eve?

Starbucks has historically operated seven days a week, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. However, not all locations remain open and hours may vary by store.

Despite the ongoing strike, the coffee chain confirmed that most of its branches will operate as usual on Christmas Eve. Executive Vice President Sara Kelly said 97 to 99 percent of the chain’s more than 10,000 U.S. stores are expected to remain open during the holidays, ensuring “a very limited impact on our overall operations.”

However, major city stores are among the 300 locations affected by the strike organized by Starbucks Workers United (SWU). The industrial action, which began on December 20, aims to address unresolved contract negotiations over wages, staffing and scheduling.

Is Starbucks open on Christmas Day?

Starbucks traditionally keeps many of its stores open on Christmas Day, offering a limited menu for those in need of a festive caffeine boost. This year, the corporate headquarters is no exception and is reaffirming its commitment to holiday seasons at most locations. However, the strike may lead to some closures, particularly in cities with high concentrations of unionized stores.

Which branch locations are affected by the workers’ strike?

The ongoing strike, described as the largest in Starbucks history, affects over 300 stores nationwide. Work stoppages are occurring in cities such as Boston, Denver, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Workers are demanding a minimum wage of $20 an hour, annual raises and better health care options.

Union leaders argue that the current pay proposals are inadequate, especially compared to the $113 million invested in the CEO compensation package this year. Despite months of negotiations and tentative agreements, the union claims Starbucks has not yet presented a comprehensive economic package.

What are Starbucks hours on New Year’s Eve?

As in previous years, Starbucks plans to keep most of its stores open on New Year’s Eve and generally operate reduced hours to meet the needs of both staff and customers. However, the strike’s potential to disrupt operations could last into the new year if an agreement is not reached.
