Greensboro Police confirm Officer Horan was shot inside the store. The shooting sparked a major police operation, with dozens of cars and officers called to the scene. According to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), the suspect in the fatal shooting of a Greensboro police officer is in custody following a chase at the Duplin County line. Officials said they received a request from the Guilford County District Attorney to investigate the shooting death of Greensboro Police Officer Michael Horan. Around 11 a.m. Monday, a 911 call came in reporting a suspicious, possibly armed person at the Food Lion on Lawndale Drive. SBI said Horan was the first to arrive on the scene and made contact with the suspect inside the store. After a brief struggle, SBI officers said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Horan before driving off. According to the SBI, Officer Horan did not have time to draw or fire his weapon. After 1 p.m., officials said the suspect was traveling in Johnston County. Officers from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office began a pursuit and were assisted by officers from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office as he entered Sutton Town. Officials said the North Carolina State Highway Patrol took over and initiated the PIT maneuver. They were eventually able to stop the vehicle on Interstate 40 near Mile Marker 360 at the Duplin County Line and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. There is currently no information regarding her identity, but charges are pending.
