Timothée Chalamet says his “biggest hope” for “A Complete Unknown” is that younger generations discover Bob Dylan

Timothée Chalamet opened up about not knowing much about Bob Dylan when he was cast as the legendary singer in the biopic A completely unknown, But now he is a proud member of the Church of Bob.

He told Yahoo Entertainment that his “biggest hope” for the film, which hits theaters Dec. 25, is that it becomes a “gateway” for a new generation to get to know Dylan.

“I was introduced to this music five, six years ago and it is the gift that I hold to this day,” he said. “It’s remarkable music and art. It’s really invigorating when that’s a word.”

Chalamet added that “in a time like today,” it is sometimes difficult to delve deeper into the media we consume.

“There are so many things that you don’t find meaning in and that you can feel hopeless about,” he said. “Then suddenly there’s this golden mountain peak.”

Chalamet appears as Dylan in the film, singing and playing instruments. During the press tour, he demonstrated other skills, such as his prowess as a football analyst and his grasp of pop culture. However, he said he “probably” won’t reveal any more talent.

Elle Fanning, who has worked with Chalamet in the past, told Yahoo Entertainment that sharing the screen with him again was a “safety and convenience.”

“At the point in our lives when we met, Call me by your name hadn’t even come out yet,” Fanning said, referencing Chalamet’s breakout role that earned him a 2018 Oscar nomination. “It’s definitely nice to know each other now.”

She plays Sylvie Russo, a character based on Dylan’s former girlfriend Suze Rotolo, with whom he was close when he first became famous. She is with him on the cover of his 1963 album Bob Dylan on the loose.

A complete unknown Director James Mangold, who co-wrote the film with Jay Cocks, worked with Dylan on the script. One of the singer’s comments was that he wanted to change Rotolo’s name.

“It wasn’t necessarily explained to me why. I put my own spin on it,” Fanning said. “I read things about Suze and Bob – they were incredibly close. Suze was someone Bob knew when he was younger, before he was famous, and I think the people you knew beforehand are very valuable to you.”

She said she considers their relationship “sacred.” Rotolo died in 2011 and as mentioned in the film, she never wanted to be famous.

“It was definitely, I’m not going to lie, subconsciously in my head,” Fanning said. “But I think (changing her name) was a nice feeling.”

A complete unknown hits theaters on December 25th.
