A Peruvian police officer dressed as the Grinch, the cantankerous green-furred villain, arrested suspected drug traffickers in the South American country’s capital days before Christmas.

According to a video posted online by the Peruvian National Police, the operation in San Bartolo, Lima, led to the arrest of three suspects.

“In a sophisticated operation, agents of the Green Force arrested the pseudonyms La Reina del Sur, La Coneja and Pote, suspected members of the La Mafia de San Bartolo gang, dedicated to drug trafficking,” says a police post on X. “It Various narcotics were seized.”

Wielding what looked like a sledgehammer, the police officer walked down the street dressed as the infamous Christmas villain with a small heart before breaking down the front door of a home and entering, the video footage shows.

The suspects were arrested and the “Grinch” rummaged through various items in the home before finding illegal drugs and other items related to the drug trade, according to authorities.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Peru is the second largest cocaine producer and coca grower in the world.

“The majority of cocaine produced in Peru is transported to South American countries for domestic consumption or for onward transport to Europe, the United States, East Asia and Mexico,” the State Department website says.

Peruvian police have carried out similar operations in the past.
