If Love Actually were filmed today, the casting director would change this

The 2003 film features an all-star ensemble cast and is directed by romantic comedy legend Richard Curtis. Even after years, it is still a festive classic.

From Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman to Andrew Lincoln, Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the cast of Love Indeed is a who’s who of British acting royalty.

It also famously starred Hugh Grant as the newly elected Prime Minister, although Weir says that would certainly not be the case today.

“The first thing I would do is cast a female Prime Minister,” the casting director previously told Metro.co.uk when asked which stars she would now cast to reflect the changes we have seen in the last two decades since release of the film.

“I think if we were doing it today, Richard would write it completely differently,” she told the publication in an interview last year to mark the film’s 20th anniversary. “20 years later it is a different country, a different world – a lot has changed.”

Weir continued: “So I think it will be a completely different script, you can’t really swap the actors around. But the only thing I can say is that we would definitely have a female prime minister.”

She even suggested an actress she could see in the role: Adjoa Andoh.

Still, it’s hard to imagine “Love Actually” without Grant’s reserved prime minister doing his iconic dance routine to the Pointer Sisters’ “Jump (For My Love).”
