My analysis
Norman Powell’s influence cannot be underestimated. He led the Los Angeles Clippers in scoring and gave that team about eight points per 100 possessions on offense.

We expect Powell to return in this game, and even if he plays 20-25 minutes while LA gets him back into action, his return should be more than enough to put the Clippers in a great position against the struggling Minnesota Timberwolves .

Minnesota’s supernatural offense just hasn’t been the same since it brought in Julius Randle in a trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to New York, where he ranked just 13th in efficiency. They’re currently right in the middle of the league in 3-point shooting, although they take a lot of shots from long range, and that should make things very difficult considering the Clippers rank fifth in 3-point defense place.

The Timberwolves will also have to deal with this on defense, considering that the Clippers were one of the best teams in the middle of the field, an area in which they were among the worst in the league on defense.

Minnesota is certainly on the verge of a win at some point as they are on a four-game losing streak, but we can’t ignore some of the issues that are building up for this team – especially towards the end of games. The offense has failed to score when needed and the Clippers team has been completely unhinged over the last two weeks and should have the wherewithal to be competitive this season.

With a sizable edge on the glass and the ability to score from mid-range and stop Minnesota’s perimeter attack, I’m confident I can take the points in what could be another crucial win for the up-and-coming Clippers.

I alluded to the Clippers edge on the glass above, but let’s break down how big it is. Minnesota ranks 19th with a 49.3% rebound rate while LA is third in the NBA, and the Timberwolves have had a particularly difficult time keeping opposing guards on the glass with over 15 rebounds allowed per game to keep.

James Harden had a great year in that regard, averaging over seven boards per game and six or more in nine of his last eleven games. Additionally, he saw an increase in his rebound rate with Powell on the court, so in a soft match he should be able to win this leg for us.

I will also be supporting one of the NBA’s most prolific mid-range shooters and one of this team’s leaders by scoring nine or more points in Derrick Jones, Jr. He should be taking advantage of some weak Randle defense here, and with Powell on the floor to take some of his focus away, I’m confident he’ll reach that number for the fourth time in five games.
