Nintendo Switch 2 reveal date leaked with online countdown

Nintendo Switch 2 reveal date leaked with online countdown

If one leaker’s recent posts are to be believed, Nintendo Switch 2 could be officially revealed much sooner than you think.

A Chinese Weibo leaker discovered on the Switch 2 subreddit is said to have been counting down using Fibonacci sequence numbers since December 21st, with that countdown set to end on January 8th.

The same leaker leaked the entire Nintendo Direct event back in June and claimed the console could be revealed in January.

This could therefore suggest that the countdown to the Switch 2’s announcement on January 8th is on, especially if other recent reports are to be believed claiming that Nintendo is keen to release the console so quickly after all the recent leaks as officially announced as possible.

None of this has been confirmed by Nintendo.

Elsewhere, someone believed to be a Nintendo Switch 2 developer shared some “pleasant surprises” ahead of the Switch successor’s announcement.

Someone recently claimed to have gotten their hands on the Switch 2 console themselves.

A plethora of leaks apparently from accessory makers have shown “actual dimensions” of the Switch 2, four new features have been “confirmed” and a detailed 3D printed model of it has been examined, presumably based on specifications provided by Nintendo.

Another accessory company may also have accidentally shared a first “official” look at what the Switch 2 looks like in a trailer, and a video posted on a Chinese video-sharing platform showed what the new Joy-Cons will look like.

Speculation continues as to what games the Switch 2 will launch with, and details about how the console is expected to support faster microSD cards have been spotted in a job listing from Nintendo.

The Japanese company confirmed that a Switch 2 announcement will be made before the end of the current fiscal year, i.e. before the end of March 2025, but fans are venting their frustration at the wait.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the Switch 2 console will be backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch games. However, it is currently unknown if this means physical games will be playable on the Switch 2 or if only downloadable software will work.
