Suspect identified and charged with murder of Greensboro police officer Michael Horan

LINDSEY TERRELL MCMILLIAN WAS BOOKED INTO THE GUILFORD COUNTY PRISON HERE AT AROUND 1 AM. He was arrested Monday afternoon, more than 100 miles from the Triad. MCMILLIAN faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder and multiple traffic offenses. MCMILLIAN WAS ARRESTED A FEW HOURS AFTER THE FOOD LION SHOOTING ON LAWNDALE DRIVE. We’re told he led the North Carolina Highway Patrol on a multi-county chase on Interstate 40 that ended along the DUPLIN-SAMPSON county line yesterday afternoon. The soldiers used a pit maneuver to end the pursuit and MCMILLIAN was taken into custody without incident. OFFICER MICHAEL HORAN WAS KILLED WHILE RESPONDING TO A CALL ABOUT A MAN WITH A GUN IN THIS FOOD LION ON LAWNDALE DRIVE YESTERDAY MORNING. The SBI says he was the first to arrive on the scene and made contact with MCMILLIAN. AFTER A SHORT FIGHT. Agents say MCMILLIAN pulled out a gun and shot the officer before leaving the scene in a vehicle. The SBI tells us that Officer Horan did not have time to draw or fire his weapon. GREENSBORO POLICE SAYS OFFICER HORAN WAS HIRED BY THE DEPARTMENT IN 2017 AND WAS SWORN IN AS AN OFFICER IN 2018. A PROCESSION LAST NIGHT CARRIED HIS BODY AWAY FROM THE CRIME SCENE. At a press conference yesterday, City Manager Troy Davis expressed his love and support THE GREENSBORO POLICE AND OFFICER HORAN’S FAMILY. And to put it simply: we are heartbroken. I would like us to take a moment to remember Officer Horan’s family at this time. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Think about it. OFFICER HORAN’S GREENSBORO FAMILY AND THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE AND SERVE HERE IN THIS CITY WHO SUPPORT OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT. According to police, Tarell Isaac McMillian, 34, of Greensboro, has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Greensboro Police Officer Michael Horan.
