Winter weather brings snow to the I-95 corridor on Christmas Eve

NEW YORK – It’s almost certain that people in the Upper Midwest, northern Great Lakes and interior Northeast will experience a white Christmas.

Just days after a strong clipper and coastal depression brought several inches of snow from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast, another snow-making system moved through similar areas in the run-up to Christmas.

Millions of people up and down the I-95 corridor woke up Tuesday morning to the perfect, atmospheric Christmas snow.

Significant snowfall was expected in northern New England and especially Maine, with more than 6 inches falling in some places. Further south, from approximately Boston down to Philadelphia, a period of light snow passed through ahead of the storm’s cold front.

Why you’ll see fewer winter warnings on weather maps this year

Winds were expected to remain light as the snow fell, making for a picturesque scene for those outside.

Although some roads may become slippery, overall it should not have a major impact on travel unless the roads are not pretreated, according to the FOX Forecast Center.

With temperatures expected to remain around 30°C on Christmas Eve and around 20°C on Christmas night, the chance of the snow melting is very limited.

From Delaware to Maryland to Northern Virginia, ice was a problem Tuesday morning with only a glass expected. The threat ended when temperatures rose above freezing during the day.
