Seneca Falls celebrates “It’s a Wonderful Life” with special guests from the original film

Seneca Falls, NY (WHAM) – They say Seneca Falls is Bedford Falls, a small town with a big heart – a perfect fit for the story that has captivated generations.

Every December, the charming Finger Lakes hamlet is transformed and hosts an annual “It’s a Wonderful Life” celebration.

For fans, it’s more than a festival: it’s like immersing yourself in a film.

This year, actors Jimmy Hawkins and Karolyn Grimes, who played Tommy and Zuzu Bailey in the original film, came to share memories and meet with fans.

“It’s really the whole concept of ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ – that one man can make a difference,” Hawkins said. “She certainly made a difference in Seneca Falls.”

“They carry in their hearts the message of all the hope that the film gives them,” Grimes said. “When they meet us, it’s like the icing on the cake.”

The classic film tells the story of George Bailey, a selfless man whose dreams are given up to help others.

But when a financial crisis pushes him to the brink, an angel named Clarence shows George how profoundly he has influenced the lives around him.

“A lot of people have come to us to talk to us about suicide and how this movie showed them that they matter,” Hawkins said.

“Fortunately, we are able to share the film’s messages, embrace the fans and give them the chance to come to this city and be with other people who love the film,” Grimes added.

On his journey, George realizes the true value of his life and the enduring importance of family, friendship and community.

Seneca Falls may not be officially called Bedford Falls, but it doesn’t have to be.

The heart of the story is not about where it takes place, but about the lives it touches.

The festivities may be over in Seneca Falls, but the message “It’s a Wonderful Life” is one we can carry with us all year long.
