Pierce is proud of the Raiders’ performance and fight after their narrow loss to the Chiefs

As the Las Vegas Raiders leave Arrowhead Stadium with a two-point loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, there are undoubtedly many hypothetical situations running through their minds.

Nothing is more disturbing than what happened on the last play.

With a deficit of 19:17 and less than two minutes left in regulation, Aidan O’Connell completed five passes for 55 yards to put his team in scoring position and take the lead.

With 14 seconds left, O’Connell lined up in shotgun formation.

“We wanted to grab the ball and basically just throw it out of bounds,” Antonio Pierce said after the game. “The ball is at the 32-yard line, kill four, five more seconds and kick a 49-yard field goal.”

It could have been redemption for Daniel Carlson, who uncharacteristically missed three field goals during the game – all from at least 55 yards.

It wasn’t meant to be, however, as miscommunication between center Jackson Powers-Johnson and O’Connell led to the Chiefs picking up the win.

“It’s completely my fault,” O’Connell said. “I looked to my right to make sure the guys were ready and started clapping. In my head I was thinking, ‘Signal the ball to get the ball,’ but when I start clapping, it basically tells Jackson to grab the ball.” .

“Jackson did exactly what he should have done. I clapped too soon. How football bounces sometimes. Didn’t go according to our wishes. Super hard, but there’s really no one to blame but myself. That’s probably the hardest part for me to digest.”
